In 1957, a fledgling insurance agency started by Russell Adams registered with the Nevada Division of Insurance. One of the earliest insurance agencies to set up shop in Nevada, the small business was assigned the license number “14.”
The agency quickly earned a reputation for its professionalism and expertise, and in 1979, Dick L. Rottman came on board as the new President, renewing the company’s commitment to these ideals. Prior to joining A and H, Dick was a university professor and served as Nevada’s Insurance Commissioner. Possessing a wealth of regulatory and financial knowledge, Dick helped further distinguish the growing company as a premier agency.
Through a series of acquisitions and partnerships, A and H would go on to establish itself as a preeminent name in the insurance industry, and continues to be recognized as one of Nevada’s signature independent insurance agencies.
A and H carved out its place in the industry through experience with domestic and captive insurance companies as well as self-insured programs, offering risk management and consulting expertise to large industries and niche businesses alike. In the meantime, the agency became politically active in working with legislators and helping the community understand the intricacies of “hard to place” insurances. Over time, this knowledge base has provided valuable information to insurance companies to help stabilize the insurance industry in Nevada.
Today, A and H Insurance is licensed to do business in over 30 states. The agency currently has six locations: Reno, Winnemucca, Fernley, Yerington, Elko, and Mesa, AZ. A and H Insurance remains an independently owned and operated agency. There are now thousands of active insurance licenses in the State of Nevada, but that 14th agency remains a force in the industry, adapting and growing to serve the evolving needs of our clients.
